Hi folks,

The latest NAKTIV project is a book about the WNBR - World Naked Bike Ride (project page: http://www.naktiv.net/wnbr). Some on the list might know me already as an author, naked activist and enthusiast - more info on me and this project can be found in the reference links below. NB. The deadline for contributions is end of September 2011.

Now is the perfect time to be sorting out the photos and the stories, to produce a work which showcases the WNBR in all it's forms; environmental protest, naked activist, public statement and private commitment, etc. Both author (http://www.naktiv.net) and publisher (http://www.nacktiv.de) are commited to promoting future WNBR events.

The WNBR story can only be told if the participants contribute from their archives. For this project, we are particularly looking for contributions in the form of interesting stories, representative high quality photographs, notable facts, and interesting anecdotes, about the event. If you're interested in helping to provide relevant material, or have any helpful suggestions, I would be very pleased to hear from every individual. On my arrival at work the other day, a co-worker said to me: "I was watching TV the other night, Paul Merton was chatting to some naked ten-pin bowling group, and there you were, stark naked on TV! Kudos to you for having the guts to do that!" I took that as a compliment :-)

Nudist, Naturist, Naktiv or Other?

A Nudist is a social animal who wants to be surrounded by others of like mind, everyone must be naked, no-one should know they are a nudist unless that person is also a member of the private club. Being a nudist means staying within an enclosed "nudist only" space where clothes are forbidden at all times. A nudist must not be seen naked outside of the enclosure, and photography is forbidden too, because no-one who is not a nudist must be able to see the nude nudist, or their image.

The Naturist is an environmentally concerned creature, who wants to be naked in nature. The naturist is not quite so focused on sharing their nakedness with other people, therefore being naked alone is fully acceptable, nature and environment is altogether more prominent in naturist thinking. The naturist is much less concerned with what other people think, and tends to be much more focused on feeling the air and weather directly on their skin, getting close to and experiencing raw nature for it's own sake.

The Naktiv beast is someone for whom freedom of choice is everything. Being naktiv means to incorporate nakedness in your everyday life, wherever and whenever you *choose* to. While this typically includes recreation time, more and more people are integrating their working environment also, whenever possible. When seeing the naked human body is synonymous with breathing, then meeting other naked, or clothed, people becomes a natural event also, and that one might be seen naked, or photographed, is a redundant concern. Thus being naktiv meshes well with protest movemements such as the highly popular World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR), where there is also a strong environmental message. Being naktiv means to value the individual more highly than their clothes, at all times and in all contexts.

The Naked European Walking Tour 2011

When asking whether nudity is truly ok or not, (original posting here: http://skinbook.ning.com/forum/topics/nudity-is-truly-ok-or-not), it struck me that while some people were perfectly comfortable for their naked photos to be seen online, the main reason given for the opposite reaction was the possibility of someone in a position of power over them knowing about their nudity. In particular, the opinions of family and friends, work colleagues and other ofessionals, were high on the list of people who "must not find out". Mostly because of the possibility of the ultimate modern social rejection; being sacked from their job. This is essentially moral/social/behavorial blackmail.

I'm sure this is (unfortunately) a reasonable fear in many cases, but for this situation to change, people have to be prepared to stand up and say they are (sometimes) naked, and to prove it. Posting naked photos on the 'net is one sufficiently positive way to prove it, and while this should clearly be a personal decision, the question remains as to whether this is not actually necessary for societal change to occur. If we can equate choosing not to wear clothes with, say, choosing to wear a particular type of watch, or a turban, or owning a cat, then there is no way anyone can blackmail you on the basis of your preference for a particular type of pet, or headwear, etc. When sufficient people do this, no-one will be able to go to your boss and say: "look, here's a naked photo of whatsisname I found on the 'net", because the boss will just say: "so what, and I don't pay you to spy on the personal habits of your fellow workers, this isn't nazi germany, or communist russia, and aren't you supposed to be working anyway...?"

So, the question really is: "do we give in to blackmail of our personal behaviour, every single day of our lives, or do we do something positive about stopping it?"

Naked European Walking Tour 2010

The plan for the next Newt (2010) (Naked European Walking Tour) is to meet for a week of naked hiking somewhere in the European Alps. The currently published dates are now fixed. The precise route is undecided, but the approximate location will be south of Salzburg in Austria.

Second week in August: Monday 9th August-> Friday 13th August 2010
